2026 still the fifth consecutive year above 100,000 immigrants with current trends. The madness needs to stop.
Experiencing net immigration overall while simultaneously experiencing net emigration of Irish citizens aged 15–24 is yet another example of this failed state of ours. It also lends weight to the policy of remigration, even if it does put a dent in the economy, it probably would cause a social benefit in other areas. The central bank itself said it needs migrants to suppress wage growth.
There is no one in the Dail willing to tackle this strongly, if the adults in the room don't discuss the elephant in the room, eventually others more extreme will.
>"few demographics have done more harm to the politics of the country through their preferences."
How delusional do you have to be to blame young people (18-24), whose average voting history is <3 years and whom have the lowest voter turn out of any group, for the political decisions of the government over the last decade+. I've heard it all now.
>"Politicians in Ireland have bent over backwards to accommodate their priorities"
and then perfectly contradicting this with "A good portion of [politicians] want to lower the voting age to let even more of these children vote."
Politicians want to extend the vote to the young because they support the same policies as the government. You have the causality completely backwards. The UK is the perfect example, Labour extended the vote to the youth to try get more votes not to create another voting block to have to appease.
another howler: "Young voters who get showered with free almost everything: Free education, free contraception, free school meals, free GP visits and so on".
These are policies designed to get votes from parents not policies to appease the youth. Honestly embarrassing piece that perfectly encapsulates older voters inability to wrestle with the policies your own cohort voted for.
The poor youth, a harsh indictment! The problem is not youth being youth, it’s the auld lads not growing up properly- 2 man boys as Taoiseach for example.
If You Are Not a Liberal When You Are Young, You Have No Heart, and If You Are Not a Conservative When Old, You Have No Brain
The best example of adult politicians bending to the youth is on climate change. It was school students like Greta who demanded action on climate change .. remember "How dare you". What did we end up with .. energy efficient houses that are so expensive to build very few people can afford to buy them, carbon taxes galore that are making the cost of living go through the roof, renewable energy that is unreliable and expensive, etc. Now they want to run away after having made the country too expensive to live in. They should be made stay and suffer the consequences of their petulance.

You've nailed the fogey vibe John.
Wow! Absolutely spot on and exactly the same in Old Britannia which, in the words of the song, loves you still.
How many of them actually voted for that bullshit?
I agree . They should stay for the left wing government that may come in 2029.
Can’t believe you’re a Jets fan, oh dear!
