Who can forget the ridiculous Budweiser and Jaguar ads that cost those companies a lot more than it cost to make the ads themselves. Good ads are supposed to sell a dream that comes with buying the product. The vast majority of men do not dream of becoming a trans woman and I presume the vast majority of women do not dream of becoming overweight models.

"The brave and progressive new world of diabetes and heart attacks being the manner in which Calvin Klein elected to sell underwear seems to have ended"

My chair almost threw me off. Brilliant 😀

The division of labour is clear: McGuirk does the man boobs, Ryan the lady ones.

I deplore the politicised ads as much as anyone, but I’ve just had a horrible thought: in ten years, many people will probably look back with a certain nostalgia at those fat people in ads compared with the salacious ads that replace them. It wasn’t so bad, they’ll say; it meant well; is it really any better than ads that make you feel ugly? I fear that even if we can defeat woke, there will always be a nostalgia for it, like with communism.

On whether companies were cynically buying into woke, I think we let activists off the hook if we say companies were just in it for the money. We allow the activists to cast themselves as victims. Because, actually, the companies *did* care about the cause. They were staffed by innumerable progressives (mostly women) who self-righteously believed they could change the world without in any way sacrificing their careers. I highly doubt their proposals were backed up by hard-nosed financial projections. The reason the companies are abandoning it is not that they’ve plundered all they could and are now moving onto another target so much as that they now stand to lose money unless they do. The activists deserve no sympathy for making their cause so toxic that companies that have stuck with them through a lot of controversy are finally having to cut the cord.

The Irish woke commentariat consists largely of fat beardy bulbous blobs who are technically male. These hideous abominations with their hairy bollocks appear to make for much more 'brave diverse and inclusive' women than the wizened old hags who pioneered the Liberation (Robinson, McAleese, Izzy Kamikaze etc)

What’s being sold on this ad is sex.

Or it was just as simple as that Ozempic let lazy people, with limited self-discipline, become skinny?

Type 2 diabetes surely?

It's like the companies changing their logos to rainbow versions for pride...except in China and Muslim countries. They're brave and supportive except when it actually is detrimental to be brave or supportive. The whole point of wokeism and should be to support oppressed minorities, but it's just a media capture virtue signalling pile of tosh
