Where is RTE on the very rare occasion when they could actually be of use???

Jesus Ben you really are a comedian. RTE won't ever report this. I am still trying to understand what got in to Miss Holland. Perhaps the societal collapse just getting started in Europe has made her think, but it is far more likely to be a bout of indigestion that put her in a sour humour.

A state that cannot protect a vulnerable 14 year old girl from being raped, despite knowing the perpetrators, is a state not only with the guardrails in the wrong place, but with its heart in the wrong place.

A question for Progressive Ireland - Is there a line that cannot be crossed? Will the rape of a child in State care be it? No? The system is working exactly as it was designed to do. Zero accountability. I share your rage John.

Are any particular charactistics of these men known? I feel like there’s some level of detail missing behind that very generic description?

James Gough's avatar

I don't know but if you Google Rupert Lowe's inquiry you might find some ideas of what could be happening here

far from me to insinuate such a thing, oh my!

Other than divvying out their budget & lining up behind fashionable causes these ministers are incompetent

I did not bother with politics or news when Reynolds was in charge but did we have a better caliber of journalist back then who happily gripped politicians a genuine question

James Gough's avatar

Yes we did. Emily O'Reilly or Geraldine Kennedy would happily rip a hapless minister to shreds on live television although Kennedy began to change as she moved up the ladder

In a recent article by Mr. Cormac Lucy I learned that the average pay for a member of an Garda Siochana is 93000 per annum. The mean will be slightly lower but not by much. The average guard takes 18 sick days per year. I haven't taken eighteen sick days since I started work in march of 1971.

The guards are aware that this girl is being raped. They appear to have done nothing to to arrest and charge the rapists. Their answer is to try and detain the child in a secure environment so as to remove the child from association with the rapists that they are aware of.

A young man was recently sentenced to two years in prison for saying that there is a serious problem with the governments imported wards assaulting women and children.

That empty vessel Foley is indeed politically responsible for this. She is a fool and is just the front woman for an evil policy being implemented by the government.

Not so the guards. Their job is to uphold the law. The lazy miserable overlayed gang of wasters that are an Guards Siochana can't be bothered to uphold the law and stop the rapists. Scumbags in state uniform.

Forget tusla, why aren't the gardai rounding up the raping scum and locking them up? Failing that give me the names and addresses and I'll get the lads together....

What can be done about the staffing problem?

Remember the skorts controversy? Headline news for weeks. Discussed on every possible TV and radio programme. But silence over this. It’s really quite unsettling to see the selective outrage of the progressive establishment.

This screams to me to be the beginning of Irelands own grooming gang scandal like the UK

They can arrest & prosecute the men & send the girl to a safe foster home that is so rural, she would have a hard time leaving g & the men couldn’t find her. Geez!

It's a question of ethics. You cannot be a supporter of Gaza and be horrified by this case at the same time. Why? In Gaza, around one hundred young girls aged fourteen to sixteen are forced into arranged marriages every week .. that's right, a hundred every week. The UN population fund released a report on it earlier this year and outlined how many of these girls end up taking their lives to escape being beaten, tortured, and raped by their husbands. This is not a crime in Gaza, it's their culture which the UN has been trying to eradicate for years but with without success. If you're a Gaza supporter it means you have no issue with these child marriages which means you have no issue with young girls being raped which means the one or two cases in Ireland are no big deal.

According to the UN, the legal age for marriage in Gaza is 18. Parents can however get permission from the courts or a local Imam to marry off their daughters who are under 18. The UN can only track official court records of child marriages in Gaza which they put at 100 a month. It reckons this is only a fraction of the true figure as Imams don't keep records. I read an article about it at the time where other sources of data such as underage pregnancies, birth rates, and other health issues puts the figure in the 100 a week ballpark.

The instinct will be to parlay this into the culture war grievance mill with 'we need to teach boys that rape is bad' or some other such cynical fatuousness. This instinct is now so robotically reflexive that when Simon Harris' welomed a new baby yesterday he said 'men really need to step up with parenting'
