By world standards, this is not an important story. Yet it has been picked up and misreported by progressive columnists in Ireland as a cause celebre for their 2010s politics.

Meanwhile, there are countless stories of similar magnitude around the world (the teenage rioters in France who attacked their female teacher, say) which the media don’t touch, presumably on the grounds that they are particular to their countries and not deserving of international attention. Well, the Cornell case proves that there is nothing small enough to report on if it can be used in the cause of our media’s progressive worldview.

Making consent the basis of rape does make sense. Nobody wants sex they weren't willing to have in the first place. But consent can't really be established by anyone. It's inherently contextual. Even if you give it explicitly, you may later find that what you meant and expected wasn't what it turned out to be. Neither the supposed victim nor the supposed perpetrator has control over that. Which means there's a genuine problem here.

If all eight were intoxicated and high on drugs can any one of them be held accountable for their actions. There's a clear double standard at play in this consent debate .. a woman who is drunk cannot be expected to make responsible decisions yet a man who is drunk must act like he is sober. If a drunk woman has sex with a drunk man aren't both of them rapists?

Agreed - feminists have demanded to be seen as equal to men, however they don't want to held accountable for making poor choices. Nobody comes out of this covered in glory, but regret sex in not rape (IMO). I remember yrs ago having this conversation with a male friend of mine - his contention, if you parked your much loved valuable car on the street you'd have a steering lock an alarm system and you'd lock the doors.. you'd protect it from opportunists and would be ner do wells. Feminism has destroyed the world for both men and women

It’s about rape and why rapists need to be hounded to their deaths if the cops and judiciary do nothing about rapists committing rapes.

I’d bisect them at their necks myself if I could.
