Not McCarthy. Mao. Struggle sessions.

They’ve lost the plot for sure, campaigners not journalists

Sports journalists were always just one small step above a spiv.

McGuirk is a genuinely unique voice in Ireland. I would love if the Irish Times gave him a column…preferably sandwiched between Una and Fintan.

If I may add a few things, I think the sports writers genuinely believe what they’re saying. It’s not mere self-preservation. As sport became politicised (kneeling, armbands, etc) so did the people writing about it. In England and America, they have come to see their role as writing about everything within the realm of sport, from match reports to racial and gender politics. Jonathan Liew at the Guardian is a notable example, who recently profiled a Palestinian bakery and the “aggressive” arrival in the same street of a Gail’s Bakery, which was founded by Jews. Irish sports journos are really just catching up.

And, my, how they’ve caught up. They are in the grips of a self-righteous mania and it’s quite alarming to be on the outside, looking in.

If the Irish crimes gave McGuirk a job it would only be to compromise him and then silence him. Once he had gotten used to the big salary and was living fully up to his new income they would simply stop publishing anything he wrote. I also worried a little that TV3 or whatever they cally themselves now would try the same stunt with Ben Scallon and put him reporting on the chimpanzee tea party up in the zoo.

As for the supposed sports journalist. There is no need to expect them to be any different from the rest of the MSM. They were likely all recruited in exactly the same way.

I hope to live to a ripe old age so I can read the history that will be written about what I call the Gaza Mind Virus. Future generations will be looking back at this in the same way we look back at the Salem Witch Trials and other obsessions that got out of hand in the past. I sincerely hope I'll have grandchildren so I can tell them what it was really like if they'll be doing it as a history project in school. We should be grateful though that those worst infected with the Gaza Mind Virus are not in power .. God wouldn't even know what they'd do.

Thankfully if you don't buy or download the National newspapers one is spared of this. The GAA clubs are I believe getting twenty five thousand over two years. Hopefully this will spare them a couple of years of not having to fundraise. More power to them.

I suppose it might be too much to ask the sports journalists if they have "no sense of decency"?
