Wonderfully articulated John! You can't ignore all the nonsense, regardless of what light he has shone on some issues. Indeed as you say, it would be down right hypocritical if you didn't - as the same points would be made re: Biden.
Yep unfortunately I have to agree with you. . I've gone from euphoria to depression from his election day to now . I feel for America because I think the Muslim religion will get a way in now and that's not good for any of us . I agree with one of the other comments on here the left will just be more intolerable than they already were and they will feel like they have had a major major win 😳😳😳😳
Can't disagree with one word John, it is however a very disappointing night for the conservative agenda all over Europe, the left will feel a strong wind in their sails, god help us.
Trump has a way of sabotaging his own success - he probably has equally strong drives of grandiosity and self-loathing. Tucker Carlton suggests that Trump hates himself, and so he hates anyone who loves him, and that includes MAGA, which he may consciously or unconsciously seek to destroy as he leaves office.
Trump is equally comfortable playing the hero or villain, as long as he maximises either role and, more importantly, the attention it brings him.
He did the same with COVID - he was so angry that COVID robbed him of a fairly smooth run-up to re-election that he behaved so insanely around COVID that budget-basement LBJ Joe Biden got in. Oddly, the very villainy Trump earned himself through January 8th fueled his comeback in 2024.
Narcissists thrive on both adulation fuel and challenge fuel, and both are obvious in Trump's behaviours.
People forget that Trump was never a Republican - he was a New York showbiz swinger and media personality before he spotted an insurgent post-crash Tea Party in need of a charismatic leader, so he took it over and rebranded it as MAGA. Gerry Adams did the same over here post-crash - he saw a leaderless nationalism resentful of international bankers and decadent elites and rebranded it as SF.
He has no long-term interest in the future success of the Republican Party or of MAGA - they were simply vehicles for his own success - as he has shown in his demeaning and jettisoning of any personality or policy that challenged him in that or any other of his business or showbiz ventures.
In fact, his narcissism is such that he may need to leave the Republican Party a smoking ruin when he leaves, just to show how necessary he was to its success in the past 10 years and how foolish and short-sighted term limits are when they forbid geniuses like himself from remaining in office.
It will be interesting to see what policies a changed US Congress will bring about. Will the US become more supportive of Ukraine, softer on Iran, softer on illegal immigration and Woke dismantling of US culture and identity?
Trump's a shape-shifter - equally comfortable on any side so long as he's the top man and getting all the attention - he invited Mamdani to the Oval when that suited; he'll swing with whoever he needs to round out his term as the elder statesman and the author of the greatest comeback in US politics.
His longest - range policy was the appointment to the US Supreme Court of conservative judges, whom he may need to rely on if the Democrats launch - as is expected - a tsunami of lawfare against him.
But the Democrats have plenty of skeletons in their own closets - ask Ilhan Omar or Joe Biden, whose senility the Democrats covered up and who began his term saying no one was above the law and ended it by pardoning his own corrupt and dissolute son - so Democrats should be careful what stones they shift - many a queer fact, many a queer insect may come scuttling out...
