This Week’s Podcast: The Terrifying New Immigration Numbers

Officially out of control

Those of you who read yesterday’s article will not be surprised by the topic of this week’s podcast: We discuss how immigration interacts with every other policy area in Ireland. The impact it is having on housing, jobs, public spending, schools, hospitals, and even our day-to-day politics.

We also find time to talk about a really under-covered story - the CAO points fiasco where kids are losing out in a points battle to students who were marked more leniently than they were - all a legacy of a six year old effort to protect Fianna Fáil from lockdown criticism.

Then there’s the fuel prices - they’re set to go up again as Government unwinds the relief we were all given over the summer. The Government says the cuts were only ever designed to be temporary - but then so was the USC. So, in fact, was income tax. Funny, that.

In other news, an Irishman was arrested in France for anti-semitic hate speech - but is that fair? And Dolly Parton died, may she rest in heaven.

It’s an engaging hour, we hope you enjoy it.

See you Monday. J&S.
