There’s a spider epidemic in Malahide, and one local woman just isn’t going to take it any more.
However, if the march of the arachnids into Sarah’s home has one thing going for it, then it’s this: It has come just after she received her “be emergency ready” booklet. So she’s well set.
We discuss that booklet this week, of course, and the Minister responsible for it: Helen McEntee. As we get into it, we get into a more fundamental question: What does it say for the health of our democracy when people like McEntee and Norma Foley are in Cabinet, but apparently hardly in office? Who actually makes decisions like “send everyone a booklet reminding them to dial 999” or “Totally ignore the latest Tusla scandal”. Are we governed by politicians, or figureheads?
As John says: One thing we’d like to ask Micheál Martin above all is: “Why is Norma Foley in Cabinet?”
Away from that, there’s a good - but civilised - barney in here about the Orange Order, Garvaghy Road, and all that in there, with Sarah representing the views of good patriotic fenians everywhere and John earning himself a position up against the wall when the revolution comes.
John might be on safer ground re: the epidemic of madness in Sports Journalism, however, given the reaction of the crowd at the Aviva last night. And finally, amidst some chat about the case of Krista Pike, who survived two attempts to kill, her, we get two things: A truly terrible Candace Owens joke, and an important question: When Ruth Coppinger takes power and sentences us all to death, what will be your last meal?
Emergency Ready, Indeed.
As ever, thanks for listening.
