Earlier this week, Councillor Gavin Pepper got his hands on the breakdown of nationalities on Dublin’s Council Housing Waiting List. Four in ten of the applicants, he revealed, are not of Irish nationality.
That’s our featured topic this week: What, if anything, can be done about it? John proposes a rule explicitly prioritising Irish applicants; Sarah isn’t so sure that would be doable or legal. Both wonder where the politicians are at, on it, given the level of public disquiet.
But aside from that, the week’s topics were very much cultural: There’s a lengthy discussion about Sydney Sweeney’s sexy new ad which seems to have annoyed the feminists. Why don’t those same people care as much about women’s sports, asks Sarah, when the men are trying to play them? Where are they on porn, asks John?
Ed Sheeran, meanwhile, drives John to a lengthy rant on the “Paddystinians” and “Belfast Jedward” - but underneath it there’s a serious question about whether artists are now expected to hold political views in public, whether they agree with them or not.
There’s also some chat about the abortion 3-day wait debate in the Dáil, Mary Lou McDonald’s makeover, and Donald Trump’s brief but apparently successful visit.
